The Gillows style sofa, is inspired by the great furniture making firm of Robert Gillow, who opened Gillows of Lancaster and London, also know as Gillow & Co. Opened in 1730, and referred to in History by Jane Austen, Thackeray and the first Lord Lytton, and in one of Gilbery and Sillivans comic operas. A beautiful statement piece and above all surrounded in 18th century English history.
The Gillows style sofa starts with a solid wood frame that is hand carved before being gilded. Hand carved lions paw feet below cabriole legs, move up to a support the straight seat band. The traditional arms carved with elegant dragon heads that make this piece a true statement timeless classic.
Lastly, upholstered traditionally, by hand, with foam seat cushions to ensure it keeps its essential structure and shape. Finished with 2 trimmed and tasselled bolsters.
