A very fine George II style mahogany and rosewood crossbanded bureau cabinet. The upper section has urn finials and a domed broken architectural cornice centered by a carved crest above two arched glazed panel doors which open to reveal forty-five drawers and nineteen pigeon holes. Two leather inset candle slides separates the hinged door bureau section which opens to reveal a leather inset writing slide, two book stands, drawers, a central cupboard and pigeon holes. Below, eight serpentine drawers enclosing a kneehole cupboard and drawer flanked by brass mounted pilasters. In total one hundred drawers, of which twenty six are secret. The original circa 1740.
