This equestrian oil painting on canvas portrays a 19th century British horse race, capturing the essence of "Down the Stretch" by Alfred F. de Prades (1844-1883). A French-born artist, gained recognition for his equestrian scenes. Exhibiting his works at the British Institution from 1858 to 1867. Known for his dynamic and also lifelike depictions of horse races.

De Prades brought the excitement and moreover the energy of the racetrack to life in his paintings.

Our commissioned artwork replicates the style and vigour of De Prades' original masterpiece. The artist meticulously captures the motion and intensity of the race, with horses and jockeys straining towards the finish line. The attention to detail in the horses' musculature and the jockeys' determined expressions additionally showcases the skill and dedication of the artist.

To enhance the painting's vintage appeal, we have treated it with an ageing varnish. This mellows the paint and also provides an authentic, timeworn look. The canvas has been carefully stretched and mounted in a custom-made 3-inch frame. Featuring a hand applied, custom coloured gold finish.
