Sometimes referred to as stacking tables or nesting tables, but they all describe tables which are compact and several smaller tables interslide within each other to form one table. They are a convenient and attractive way to provide an occasional extra table without taking up precious space in a room when not in use. Simple decoration often adorns the table tops but where more decorative inlays or chinoisserie is used the smaller tables are less decorative than the top one. Nests of tables usually contain three tables and in exceptional circumstances there may be four which is called a quartetto.
