This specially commissioned oil painting on canvas is by our principal artist Liu Yingjie. Interpreting "Scotland Forever!" in the style of Lady Butler, the esteemed British military artist. The painting captures the dramatic start of the charge of the Royal Scots Greys at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The powerful scene focuses on the heavy grey horses used by the regiment, charging forward in the heat of battle.

The original painting, created by Lady Butler, was first exhibited at the Egyptian Hall in Piccadilly in 1881. Now housed at the Leeds Art Gallery. It was one of the gallery's earliest acquisitions, gifted by Colonel Thomas Walter Harding in 1888. "Scotland Forever!" gained historical significance, being used during the First World War for propaganda by both British and German forces, illustrating the enduring power of this imagery.
