A hand carved giltwood  Chippendale 18th Century Style Overmantel Mirror in the Chippendale style. Inspired by an 18th Century fireplace in the “Chippendale Director” a catalogue of more than 250 furniture designs produced by Thomas Chippendale’s workshops, first published in 1754.

Hand carved in laminated mahogany (shown in its raw form in the additional images) and oil gilded in metal leaf with a partially white background.  The frame is ornately hand carved with C scrolls, acanthus leaves and crowned with two Ho Ho birds either side of a pagoda.

Thomas Chippendale was a cabinet maker in London who designed furniture in the mid-Georgian, English Rococo and Neoclassical styles.  After his published book his designs became so influential that 'Chippendale' became a shorthand description for any furniture similar to his.
