The Mauretania Chair is our handmade reproduction of the original antique that we are proud to keep in our showrooms. The original antique Mauretania sofa is a kidney shaped sofa from the first-class lounge of the RMS Mauretania, which held the Blue Riband for the fastest Atlantic westbound crossing in 1909 for two decades.
Our handmade reproduction firstly, starts with a solid beech kidney shaped frame, with our own burr oak veneer. Secondly, upholstered by hand are foam filled seat cushions, and feather filled scatters. Aiming to give the perfect mix of comfort and furthermore being able to hold its shape, for years to come.
Keeping the traditional shape and feel of the Mauretania was important for us in this reproduction piece. We also aspire to continue the same antique feeling in every piece we make. Following this, upholstering the Mauretania chair in Zarina by Ian Sanderson, to perfectly match the original fabric.
We take pride in building and designing pieces like the Mauretania chair in our workshops for over 50 years, continuing to reinforce our commitment to the artistry and craftsmanship of traditional English upholstery.
